Square Enix Bringing Romancing Saga To PS3 As A PS2 Classic

By Spencer . December 15, 2014 . 1:28am

imageOn top of two new SaGa games, Square Enix is re-releasing Romancing SaGa as a PS2 Classic in Japan. Romancing SaGa is a remake of the Japan-only Super Famicom game of the same name with tweaks like learning skills mid-battle similar to Romancing SaGa 2 and 3D graphics.

Square Enix is selling a Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song 25th Pack which includes a 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle and a code to download Romancing SaGa on March 12. The game will also be available regularly on Japan’s PlayStation Store. Romancing SaGa was localized for the West, so Square Enix could re-release the RPG worldwide, but as of now they have not announced any plans to do so.

Here’s the cover for the Romancing Saga jigsaw puzzle:

Hopefully square-enix wants to forget unlimited saga almost as much as me, i like romancing saga but noone, should ever have to play that…nightmare.

For once, i’m wanting a company to not release a game.
That said, i wouldn’t mind a rerelease of romancing saga on the us and possibly eu psn.

    • Randy Marsh

Considering that Unlimited Saga did well in Japan surprisingly, I’m not doubting an eventual PSN release.

  • Shuryou

Please please please please please, let this come to the US PSN.

    • Michael Kelehan

I don’t see why it wouldn’t. The translation is done, the work to make the JP version run on non-BC PS3s is done, so it shouldn’t take much more work. I’ll grab it if it happens.

  • Randy Marsh

Japan is lucky…they get to have this and the superior Super Famicom version. :/

    • Barrylocke89

Well at least for the Super Famicom version there’s a translation patch that’s in beta testing mode right now. So more Westerners should be able to try it soon.

    • Haganeren

I’m very interested to know how the Super Famicom version is superior. All i know is that Romancing SaGa had really bad graphics at the time (and still now…)… Because that’s the only thing i can understand in Japanese.

So, there is more quest ? The game is better balanced ? It’s quicker ?

    Us and EU when!

  • JustThisOne

This is good. It’ll give the new Saga game some much needed hype.

  • Bo

    The EU needs it!

  • pokeslob

lots of SaGa related news lately, I’ve noticed…

    • Harry Potter

      because its their 25TH ANIVERSARY

  • BeatTheGG

    We’re starving over sea’s here.

  • Learii

I never heard of this one before

  • Square has a bad track record leaving games in Japan even though there are localized versions. They really need to trust their backlog.

  • chroma816

Never played a SaGa game. I like that puzzle artwork, though.

  • CloudStrifeACC

Let me guess, they’ll bring it to PS4 after this as a ‘remastered edition’.

  • I’d buy it. I never got to finish it back in the Ps2 days. Bring it here guys!
