Bayonetta 2 Makers Are Working On A New Project

By Sato . December 30, 2014 . 4:11am

Bayonetta 2 released not too long ago, but the developers of our favorite sadistic witch are already hard at work on their next project, which they recently confirmed during a feature with 4Gamer.

“We’ve already began working on the next project, but it seems like it’ll be a little while longer until we can make an announcement,” said Bayonetta 2 producer Akiko Kuroda. “I hope that we can do something related to the Bayonetta series in 2015 as well, so please keep an eye out for more from Bayonetta!”

Meanwhile, Bayonetta 2 director Yusuke Hashimoto stated, “Currently, a new project is in progress! We’re doing our best to develop something that will make you all say ‘I want to play it!’ and thank you for your continued support in 2015 as well!”

Just what this project is remains to be seen. In addition to the game being teased here, Platinum are also working on Scalebound for the Xbox One.

Bayonetta 3, now with co-op mode with both Bayonetta and Jeanne!

    Wishful thinking though…

    • http://mmx-engine.blogspot.com/ Game Dragon

Bayonetta 2 already has that though.

      • RagingTiger44

He probably means co-op within story mode.

        • MrJechgo

          Yep!

    • Pattonfiend67

There already is, and you can be more characters than just Bayonetta or Jeanne.

Maybe you should play Bayonetta 2 first before asking for Bayonetta 3…

      • MrJechgo

Co-op on the story mode, not just in challenges

  • mojack411

Huh, I have absolutely no idea what this could be but knowing Platinum Games, it’s probably going to be a new game. I can’t see Bayonetta 3 happening right now and PG has never been really huge on making sequels for their series in the first place.

  • Armageddon

Glad to hear it. I hope it’s MGR2.

    • Gigaknight

      THIS.

Jetstream Sam better live, damn it.

      • https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJbQc88bFVbRKE2WLBS1UQA Taylor Xero

        nah he’s dead

  • xanox

Is it a good Devil May Cry game?

    • Hector Velar

oh hoh hoh, that is very funny I see what you did there. But you want to know what is funnier if you google the first Bayonetta game and compare it to Devil may Cry 1 you will see that bayonetta has better scores even perfect 5/5 and 10s, Devil may cry never got that..that is funny! Oh oh wait for it, Bayonetta 1 got nominated game of the year by IGN OMFG where was DmC when this happened, wait I know releasing crappier and crappier sequels….OMG that is too funny, oooh but look at the reviews of Bayonetta 2 perfect 10s all over!!! They did it again and they are a much smaller company that Crapcom is with a smaller budget, THIS IS FUNNY. Bayonetta set up the standard for all beat them up 3d action game that lots of other companies are trying to achieve and still failing at it(like crappie Castlevania), you sir you need to educate yourself.

      • Christopher C

        isn’t castlevania older? like snes?

        • hng qtr

It was never a 3D beat’em up until Lament of Innocence…which is still older than Bayo.

          • Hector Velar

yes never achieved the perfection Bayonetta did and all the rest never did, however Lords of Shadows played VERY similar to Bayoneta, yet it was lacking tons and very limited.

        • Mecha_the_Hedgehog

I think he was talking about the Lords of Shadow Castlevania. Yeah those games are crap

          • MrAptronym

I like them. I mean, if I had to choose, I prefer platinum’s titles, but I like the LoS series.

        • Hector Velar

yes…Lords of shadows, the context of the conversation was 3d action beat them up, not 2d sidescroller beat them up….

          • Vesperion

            Ha. Beat “them” up

          • Christopher C

I thought castlevania was just a 2D game

          • Hector Velar

to me the real castlevanias are all 2d, then thoe others are poor quality copies of God of war, Shadows of Colosus and Bayonetta.

      • Silver Mushroom 2

I’m pretty sure the dig was meant for Capcom, the people who have been craping on the DMC name, and not Platinum Games, who are always busting out amazing games and have DMC 1 and 3 director working for them IIRC.

  • NeptuniasBeard

Hope it’s on the WiiU. Doesn’t even have to be exclusive, just want more Platinum

    • Tiredman

I was thinking the exact same thing when I saw the article title. I don’t care about exclusivity, I just want more Platinum on the Wii U.

    • subsamuel01

Bayonetta was a Wii U exclusive because Nintendo paid for it, just like Microsoft paid for Scalebound. It’s usually the publisher* that decides what platform the game comes out on, and lets be honest every third party publisher is just going to pick the PS4 and Xbox One now.

    • MrAptronym

I would like for it to be on all the major systems. Including PC >.< Please?

  • PowerSerg

Any Wii U game will do, I’ll be sitting here waiting. 3ds would be fine too but it doesn’t seem their style.

    • Kaetsu

3DS probably can’t handle the intensity of a Platinum action game. They could however make a non-action game like Infinite Space for 3DS.

      • PowerSerg

It might not be able too for sure. Although they could do an awesome game is they could XD.

  • z_merquise

Good thing there’s more to expect from Platinum Games besides Scalebound this 2015. It would be cool if they made something for a portable console either Vita or 3DS.

  • D-Omen

Vanquish 2 Wii U-exclusive, go go go!

  • popyea

I hope there’s some Bayo 2 DLC, and maybe one that comes with a balance patch.

  • DesmaX

Hope it’s on PS4. It’s the only console that still lacks platinum’s glory

    • ineedgames

      Isn’t Korra on PS4?

      • DesmaX

I guess, but that wasn’t their finest moment

        • ineedgames

If it is then that would mean I have to fork over money for a PS4.
Already got a WiiU for bayonetta 2, Wonder 101 and XBox One for Scalebound.

          • DesmaX

            I envy you

          • TheChosen

Its very likely their next game comes also to WiiU. Because N right now has them under contract. And yes, like you said, Korra has been for PS4/Multi.

          • MrAptronym

They aren’t under contract with Nintendo. The new game will probably be multi-platform.

    • subsamuel01

Bayonetta pushed the limits of what the Wii U can do, imagine what Platinum can do on the PS4 and Xbox One.

      • TheChosen

They didn`t push the limits of WiiU. They said, the engine of Bayonetta 2 is from Xbox 360-times. They clearly didn`t have enough time to do more. The game only uses one cpu-core.

      • HarakiriKami

        I dont know about that.

Xenoblade X and Zelda U seem to be doing more

  • ineedgames

New Vanquish? New MetalGearRising? New IP?
Ether way I’ll buy it day one.

    • Guest

Metal Gear Rising 2 with Grey Fox would be pretty awesome.

  • AndyMAX

Metal Gear Rising 2 with Gray Fox would be so awesome.

  • Yan Zhao

It’s gona be pretty hard to outdo Bayonetta 2. But I believe they can do it! Wii U needs more good exclusives to shut the haters up :3

    • ineedgames

It’s already got good exclusives, It shits on 2014 with Smash bros alone.

      • Mecha_the_Hedgehog

LOL thats for true man if you didn’t like Nintendo or Indie games 2014 was probably the worst year to be a gamer.

      • Yan Zhao

        It needs more.

      • ALL HAIL KING BIMPY

1 is not enough.. 1-4 isnt enough

        • Pattonfiend67

At this point we have roughly 30 retail disc games that are exclusive to Wii U, but nice try. You do get an A+ for being ignorant though…

          • Vesperion

While that is true, you can still get more variety on another console. Nintendo kills with first party, but that’s all they do, and i’m not really into Mario and Zelda like i used to be.

          • HarakiriKami

            Erm not really.

Lets look at the funk :3

            http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Wii_U_software

            http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_4_system_software

Gaming these days is so segmented and over centralized its not likely you’ll find more variety than on a nintendo platform. Nintendo covers pretty much ever genre with their first party game/third party collaborations, and indies bring the rest. Maybe a Playstation platform in its aging years.

          • Vesperion

Well yeah the Wii U has been out for a year longer then the PS4, and the X1, but even just looking at that list it’s like if the game isn’t multiplat, then it’s mostly some shovelwear. My buddy picked up a Wii U just for Bayonetta. Not hating or anything, but much as i would like one i can’t justify buying it and not having much else to play besides bayonetta and smash since i don’t care for the first party games.

I mostly play fighters, action, and some rpg’s sometimes. Last gen they had smash and tatsunoko. anything else you could get the superior version elsewhere (IF it’s even on the Wii) While smash is fun Wii interest will just fade out if you aren’t into the first party titles.

          • HarakiriKami

            Lol.

          • Vesperion

            Huh? Was that funny?

      • Vesperion

Yeah it’s got good exclusives if you just like like first party games. 2, or 3 third party games aren’t enough.

    • ALL HAIL KING BIMPY

but nitnedo doesnt own PG since PG’s president already said they are making games for each system 2 years ago. it just so happened nintendo funded them. now i would argue BAY is just as enjoyable as DMC NG etc. these are the top kings

      • TheChosen

Right now Platinum is under contract for N. And that has points why it has come so far. They said, they don`t like working conditions from Sony or other studios. They are doing something for N because they want to learn from N to make better games.

        • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

Stop making things up. They’ve never said anything of the sort.

  • NintendoPSXTheSecond

I hope it’s Platinum Games working on a new Murasame Castle game. Give Takamaru some love!

  • Go2hell66

    Its devil may cry 5!

  • Mecha_the_Hedgehog

Even though I desperately want anther Metal Gear Rising I got a feeling its going to be a new IP and that’s pretty cool cant wait to find out what it will be. I hope it will be multi platform though hate missing out on Scalebound.

  • https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJG980wYNJwltAB3JeT5euA SegaSaturnSNK

    ALL HAIL PLATINUM GAMES!

  • AuraGuyChris

A complete revival for Viewtiful Joe!

Oh wait, Capcom owns that and they don’t even use its material at all.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

    New game?…

    Scalebound- Xbox

    Bayonetta 2-wii-u

ok its going to be something for the ps4

    • TheChosen

Don`t think so. Its very likely another WiiU-game. Cause they are in contract with N now. Platinum has no interest to develop something for sony (because of bad working conditions) and they have no real interest in doing sth for MS.

The Wonderful 101 was also only on WiiU.

    • MrAptronym

Not unless Sony bankrolls it. I suspect since Nintendo and Microsoft already had projects in development though that whatevcer it is will be multi-platform.

    • HarakiriKami

The legend of korra 2 :P

      • ShawnOtakuSomething

        no..that was so boring

    • kylehyde

      Not happening

      • ndjn3979

        it’s a joke buddy relax

    • Eder García

not on PS4, Platinum hates Sony

      • MrAptronym

Hates as in “Sony isn’t bankrolling a game from them like Nintendo and Microsoft are.”?

        • Eder García

i believe the hate is beyond that, at least from key members pf Platinum

    • http://www.crystaltemple.org/ the crystal gems

If it were to happen, they should just blatantly name it “Multiple Climaxes” because that is what transpired when I played the game.

    • Spirit Macardi

With no Nintendo crossover costumes and sub-30 framerate!

  • eilegz

no ps4 game? they really hate sony or something…

    • TheChosen

No. But sony has VERY BAD working conditions. Platinum wants GOOD or perfect working-conditions. They want help from Nintendo, because Sony is unable to help them. They want to learn from Nintendo right now, THATS why they make games for them now.
The same goes for Valhalla-Studios which makes => Devils Third.

Platinum right now learns, why Nintendo can make so perfect games, without any help. And they learn how to make better games. And there are in fact many studios who want to learn how that works.

      • FTM

Do enlighten us with this fountain of knowledge from which you find that working for Nintendo is accessible, because since the Nintendo 64 there are hundreds of articles, from the mouths of game developers themselves, that share how horrible it is to work with Nintendo.
P* got a big exclusive contract for Bayonetta 2. Nintendo treated Bay 2 as though it were on of their own titles. This is really great of them, and it shows progress for Nintendo and 3rd-party relations.
But cool your fanboy jets, take a deep breath, and think about the Wii, about the Gamecube, and about the N64. All hardware that were limited to the competition, and also all hardware with repeatedly discussed problems in development for. Not only did Nintendo not assist in even discussing development with these devs, but they also did not give them even an inch of advertising or assistance.
Nintendo is undoubtedly the most lousy of the 1st-party for 3rd party, and it has taken a serious toll on them from the long-standing gaming community and many publishers/devs as well. They’re trying to do better, catching up by assisting 3rd-party advertising as well embracing the contemporary standard of Indie fishing, but this does not mean that they’ve surpassed their very long-standing past as being an utterly horrible company to work with.

        • Spirit Macardi

That’s the thing though: some devs claim Nintendo consoles are hard to develop for, and yet others are able to release games just fine. Who’s right?

Hell, right now it’s mostly the AAA industry that’s claiming Nintendo’s hard to develop for, meanwhile indie devs and smaller studios are releasing games just fine. So is it actually a difficult process, or are the big companies just throwing a fit because they don’t want to share their toys?

          • ineedgames

AAA publishers just want to save money and fear the WiiU will make them a loss, I don’t blame them Since the WiiU isn’t selling much. AAA games do cost a lot.

          • Spirit Macardi

And that would be a valid reason, but that’s not what they’re claiming for the most part. They say that the Wii U is tough to develop for, and yet there’s evidence to the contrary.

    • MrAptronym

They were paid to make exclusives. Making a game costs a lot and when someone comes along to bankroll the project you listen. If you can you obviously will release for as many systems as possible. Especially with Xbone /PS4 being so similar.

    • TrevHead

Since P* are devs for hire it’s the other way around. Sony hates P*

Or atleast only focussing on more mature IPs like Souls & Uncharted that are popular with westerners

  • Kaetsu

It’s definitely metal gear rising 2. They’ve even teased it’s in development.

    • César H. Sandoval

Source about the teases please, I’m dying to play a sequel to MGR.

    • MrAptronym

If that’s true it would make my week. I know its not perfect, but Revengence is one of my favorite games ever.

  • Eder García

possibly will be a brand new Platinum action game, (or a Platinum action game using a 3rd party IP)

  • http://www.isfuturebright.com/ Silvio Carréra

More vanquish would be good :)

    • Giordan

but that was made by Shinji Mikami, who’s no longer a part of Platinum.

pretty sure he never was, it was just a collaboration between the two

He was with Platinum very briefly.

  • subsamuel01

    Aren’t they also working scalebound

    • Haganeren

They have several team on the studio.

  • ER_Mac3

Just finished the second game, bought the Wii U for this, couldn’t miss the sequel seriously, and it was awesome! The story closed a nice cycle with the first game, and hope the next installment continues to enrich the Bayonetta universe, and also, it wouldn’t hurt to have some spin offs on 3DS, I’d totally buy a game focused on Rodin or Jeanne with some side stories all tied up with some characters that passed through the first 2 games. Can’t wait! õ/

  • TrevHead

Personally I really hope this new game has online MP included too (with crossplatform play), even with the lack of players and naff button mashing mechanics Anarchy Reigns was great fun while it lasted.

  • Hagaren
    • Vesperion

While Clover did create VJ, the IP is owned by Capcom

      • Hagaren

Ah, that’s true, I forgot. Still, I’d really like to see a new VJ game.

A 3rd and “last” Viewtiful Joe was suppose to be made before they closed their studio down.

        • Ixbran

who knows, maybe Capcom will finally go out of bisnus due to their stupidity finally catching up to them, and maybe Hideki Kamiya will be given the rights to the IP’s he made while working with capcom.

    • Spirit Macardi

Wonderful 101 is about as close as we can get.

  • Stocke

A Spin-off for 3DS… or Mysterious Murasame Castle, but I see more Scalebound when finished .

  • http://hatintime.com/ ShadowFang

As long as they keep getting work, I’m happy :) Even if the sales for their games could certainly be better (and their f**king system-seller quality titles could be BUNDLED WITH YOUR STUPID HARDWARE, NINTENDO!), it’s good to know that there are still publishers biting and getting them to do games.

Though I’m still hoping that Nintendo got them to develop the Wii U Star Fox, personally. The Bayonetta 2 team has those assets, and scripts, in place and working like a champ already in their engine…

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SSZN5TYb6o

  • WhyWai

Ain’t they working on a Xbox exclusive? Dragonscale or something…

    • Gasarocky

Kamiya and his team is working on that(name is “Scalebound”). The team that worked on Bayo2 was different, so THEY are now starting something else
