Bayonetta 2 Crowned As The Most Accessible Game Of 2014

AbleGamers, the charity that represents gamers with disabilities, has awarded Bayonetta 2 as its Accessible Mainstream Game of the Year 2014.

The award recognizes those games that make an effort to create a user-friendly experience with a range of available control methods, readability for colorblindness, and an elegance in design.

Bayonetta 2 was picked out as the most accessible game of 2014 for multiple reasons. For starters, it can be played with the WiiU GamePad, Pro Controller, the GamePad’s touch screen, and any combination of these. Its visuals also do not affect those with colorblindness. But it seems that the gameā€™s inclusion of a one-button combat mode is what really won it over.

ā€œThe inclusion of a one-button combat mode creates an experience other character action titles should implement. As a proof of concept, this game demonstrates that accessibility can be implemented into a mainstream AAA game without harming any of the gameplay. Popular titles such as Shadow of Mordor could easily implement one-button mode for those who need such accessibility while leaving a complicated controls for those who prefer those methods, and still award players with a top-notch game that is accessible to everyone,ā€ AbleGamers said.

In closing, AbleGamers said that Platinum Games went out of its way to make accessible a style of game that isnā€™t usually, and thatā€™s why it won the award.

AbleGamers also had a separate Accessible Indie Game of the Year Award. There were two winners of this award, which were Always Sometimes Monsters by Vagabond Dog, and This War of Mine by 11 Bit Studios.
