A modder going by the name “Bunny” in the Resident Evil Modding Forum is working on bringing the original voice action of the 1996 Resident Evil to Resident Evil HD Remaster after it was recently released on PC (via PC Gamer).
While Resident Evil is known for popularizing the survival horror genre back in the mid-‘90s, it’s also remembered by many for its cheesy, B-Movie (Z-Movie?) voice acting and cutscenes. If you don’t remember the glorious live-action opening to the game then you should certainly refresh your memory.
Yeah, the acting is rather atrocious, and the voice acting in the rest of the game is no better. Nowhere is this demonstrated better than in the videos that Bunny has uploaded of their work-in-progress mod. You can watch the one above containing a couple of scenes from the HD Remaster in the mansion’s main hall with the original 1996 voice acting. But the video below is where the hilarity really gets going.
Obviously, as there are scenes in Resident Evil HD Remaster that aren’t in the original game, the mod won’t be able to replace the newer voice acting in its entirety. Even so, it seems that Bunny will be trying to mask the original voice acting on to as much as the HD Remaster as possible.
