Producer Eiji Aonuma is back for the video introduction series of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D, and in this episode, he tries out the Goron Race to see how he performs against other Gorons.
This time, Aonuma heads outside of Clock Town to participate in the race located at the Goron Racetrack of Snowhead, which is held every spring. As you can see, Link is already transformed into a Goron.
Aonuma says that the Goron Race was actually something he was in charge of during the development of the original title for the Nintendo 64, and while he feels like he’s under the spotlight for that, he thought why not give it a try for old time’s sake.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with the Goron Race, you’ll need to keep your magic up in order to roll full speed. In order to do so, it requires you to hit green pots that contain magic to keep the speed up. Without magic, you’ll slow down, making it quite difficult to keep up in the race.
Aonuma begins trying the race starting at the 1:27 mark of the video. He explains that getting hit from behind makes it difficult to keep going steadily towards the same direction, and it shows soon after, as he bumps into walls and other obstacles while getting knocked off track.
Prior to his third attempt, the producer explains how when he originally worked on the mini-game, he made it into something that could easily be won by just about anyone, so he finds it funny that he’s now having a rough time at it.
He tries getting lucky with a bit of a fast start, but jumps the gun a little too early for a couple tries. On the next run, he focuses a little more on dodging the other Gorons. He also pays more attention to the obstacles ahead of him to avoid losing time, but unfortunately, gets knocked off-stage.
After asking whether there’s some kind of mask that could help him win the race, he’s told that there’s not, so he decides to continue giving it his best shot. After a little crash, Aonuma manages to get back in the race and finish in 1st place.
His little tip for you at the end, is to stick to the right wall on the last corner, and you should be able to pass by all the rival Gorons.
The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D will release in North America and Europe on February 13, 2015 for the Nintendo 3DS.
