Square Enix Pulls The World Ends With You: Solo Remix [Update 2]

Update 2: Square Enix have sent Siliconera a full statement regarding the state of the game. It reads: “Upon examining the impact of recent iOS updates to the title, we determined that the affected areas were greater than originally assumed. We were working to address this matter, however, the title has been regrettably pulled from the Store. Square Enix is actively working with all related parties to make available the software update; however at this time, we are unable to communicate a clear and adequate timeline. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to determine a solution.”

Regarding refunds, Square Enix stated: “For customers looking for a refund, we advise them to contact Apple, as it handles refunds for all the apps through App Store.”

Original story: Square Enix has decided to discontinue selling The World Ends With You: Solo Remix on the iOS App Store. It is still available on Google Play for Android.

The game has been broken since iOS 8 came out back in September 2014, requiring an update with fixes so people could play it on their iPhone or iPad. At first, Square Enix support said that it would not be fixing Solo Remix to make it compatible with iOS 8. Then, when probed by Touch Arcade, the company said that it would be fixing it but that it would take a while due the issue being more complicated than initially thought.

Now, a couple of weeks after saying that, Square Enix support on both the North American and Japanese side has put up notices saying that the service for Solo Remix has been discontinued (via Touch Arcade).

“On February 13, 2015 4:30 p.m. (PST), the service for the iPhone/iPad Version of The World Ends with You -Solo Remix- was discontinued. You will still be able to use the downloaded app, but please be advised that you will no longer be able to download the app after the service has ended. We value your patronage and thank you for supporting the iPhone/iPad Version of The World Ends with You -Solo Remix-,” reads the notice.

Due to this discontinuation, some players are now demanding refunds on their $17.99 on iPhone and $19.99 on iPad (that’s the full price of the game though it has been discounted in the past). Some refunds may actually be possible if requested as Apple changed its terms of service at the end of 2014 so that European customers could get their money back within 14 days of a purchase. Outside of that, it’s not likely that anyone will get a refund.
