Square Enix recently shared the latest look and details on Star Ocean 5, and producer Shuichi Kobayashi and director Hiroshi Ogawa talked more about the game in an interview in this week’s issue of Dengeki PlayStation. [Thanks, Hachima]

First, Dengeki asks why Star Ocean 5 is being developed for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.

“After thinking about which console older fans of Star Ocean would likely play the game on, we decided on PlayStation,” says Kobayashi. “Rather than focusing on making it for a home console, we focused more on which consoles are owned by more people [among this audience].”

Next, Dengeki asks about the concept behind the development of Star Ocean 5.

“‘Righteousness’ and ‘returning to our roots’ would be the foundation,” explains Ogawa. “I’d like to make something that can be enjoyed by those who like the RPG genre.”

Kobayashi adds, “Fundamentally, our goal is to make something that can be accepted by RPG fans, and a Star Ocean that fits in today’s era.”

Dengeki also asks about DLC, which was mentioned in an earlier interview.

“We’re not thinking about DLC that supplements the story,” Kobayashi says once again. “Of course, if the fans want it, then there is the possibility. Personally speaking, I believe fans would think that if we have time to be working on that, they’d much rather have us work on the next title, instead.”

Finally, Dengeki asks the developers to share a little on the parts of the game they’re putting most effort into.

“We’re focused on the seamless aspect of it,” says Kobayashi. “While surrounded by enemies on the field, the camera will be positioned in a way that will make it easier to fight and have no discomfort.”

“However, I feel that there are still some parts of the camera that need adjustment,” Ogawa chimes in. “I’d like to keep working on it until we’re finally done.”

“The screenshots we recently revealed were done in real-time. It’s what it’ll look like to seamlessly move between events and battles,” Kobayashi says.

Star Ocean 5 is in development for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.
