During Square Enix’s new Dragon Quest title presentation event, they announced Dragon Quest XI: In Search of the Departed Time for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS. The livestream event is currently ongoing and we’ll update with more details as they become available.

The game’s producer is Saito Yosuke, and it’s in development for both PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS. The PS4 version is being developed with the Unreal Engine 4, and Square Enix are working to be able to use the PS4 at its full capacities for the upcoming title.

The Nintendo 3DS version is being made by the same core members, and will have follow the same story as the PlayStation 4 version.

The above is a look at an inn. You’ll get to break pots and check drawers like in past Dragon Quest games. You’ll also get to jump.

You can see NPCs from a distance, like the one in the above screenshot waving from far. Square Enix are putting in more efforts to make the world and its people appear livelier than ever.

For the first time, you’ll get to climb up high areas and fully explore the areas.

The environment is something Square Enix are putting a lot of effort into, and the monsters will appear in symbol encounter fashion, meaning you’ll run into monsters on the field before the battles start.

As for the Nintendo 3DS version, the top-screen will show a more 3DS-style with chibi characters, while the bottom screen shows the game in more of an old school SNES era look.

The battles will be shown in symbol encounter fashion on the top-screen, while the bottom screen will show it as a random encounter as it happens.

Series composer Koichi Sugiyama will be working on the music for Dragon Quest XI. He appeared as a special guest and talked about how he was instructed by series creator Yuji Horii to work on it with the mood of the very first Dragon Quest game, as it will be the start of something new. Sugiyama, who turned 84-years-old this year, said he will do his best to work on the title, and will give it his all as long as he’s still alive.

Square Enix aim to have the game released sometime within the series’ 30th anniversary. At the end of the presentation, it was also revealed that development for Dragon Quest XI is also in consideration for Nintendo NX.
