Pac-Man 256 Is Free, Unlimited Credits Costs $7.99

Earlier this summer, Bandai Namco announced it was tasking Crossy Road developer Hipster Whale with the creation of an endless Pac-Man mobile game for the series’ 35th anniversary. Today, Pac-Man 256 is available for both iOS and Android devices.

Pac-Man automatically moves through an endless maze in Pac-Man 256. Swiping up, down, left, or right changes his directions, which is necessary to navigate, evading ghosts and collecting coins, Power Pellets, and fruits. Playing can also unlock special abilities, like a laser that toasts ghosts or the ability to freeze them.

Pac-Man has two enemies in Pac-Man 256. The dreaded Level 256 Glitch slowly creeps up from the bottom of the screen, meaning someone has to constantly keep moving forward or it will catch up and end the game. There are also multiple ghost varieties, from the standard Inky, Blinky, Pinky, and Clyde. Grey ghosts that appear and awake out when Pac-Man draws near are one type. Chains of multiple ghosts of the same color will appear as well.

Pac-Man 256 also offers a credit system. You can accrue six credits at a time, and one is needed to play. If you fail in the middle of a level, you can use one credit to recover and keep playing for a second try. Six credits are available for free upon first downloading the game, and replenish over time, but a $7.99 purchase can be made to unlock unlimited credits.

Pac-Man 256 is a free-to-play game immediately available on both Google Play and iTunes.
