People who use a Shovel Knight amiibo in the Wii U version of the game will be able to unlock a multiplayer mode. Once tapped to the GamePad, a cooperative experience will open up and allow a second player to join in the quest.

Both the 3DS and Wii U versions of Shovel Knight will share additional amiibo features. He can gain new appearances, abilities, and relics when the figure is used. It can also unlock additional challenge levels in both variations of the game.

Shovel Knight is immediately available in the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U eShops for $14.99, and its free Plague of Shadows expansion will be added to the game in September. Physical copies of the 3DS and Wii U game will be released in October. A release date for the Shovel Knight amiibo was not revealed.
