Brony Fighting Game Reborn As Them’s Fightin’ Herds To Avoid Copyright

Mane6 began working on a My Little Pony-based fighting game called Fighting Is Magic (a twist on the “Friendship Is Magic” subtitle of the TV show) back in 2011. In 2013, Hasbro – who owns the My Little Pony animated TV show – filed a cease and desist against the game.

To weave around this, Mane6 has since been reworking the entire game so that it contains no copyrighted material. This means that, instead of fighting as ponies, you now fight as cows and reindeer. Remarkably, these new animals are designed by Lauren Faust, who is responsible for the characters in the My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic TV show, as she didn’t want to see the fans’ work go to waste and decided to help out.

Apart from that, the core of the original game remains intact, the appeal being the game’s unique focus on four-legged animals in a 2D fighting game. Most recently, Mane6 has announced that the new game is called Them’s Fightin’ Herds and will have a crowdfunding campaign to see it completed, which is due to launch on September 21st.

“Over the next few days we’ll be releasing more information about the game, the new dynamic music system (which we love the heck out of), the characters you’ve already seen, and we’ll be showing you some you haven’t,” Mane6 announced as part of the lead-up to the crowdfunding campaign.

“We’re pretty excited to finally be able to tell you guys more about the game, the new setting, and especially the new characters, which we hope you love as much as we do.”
