Three Fourths Home, A “Visual Short Story”, Arrives On Consoles This Month

The console versions of Three Fourths Home: Extended Edition have got release dates in the US. It’ll be out for Xbox One on October 9th while PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita owners have to wait until October 18th. Europeans will get it shortly after those dates.

You might call Three Fourths Home a visual novel but its creators at [bracket] games prefer the term “visual short story.” It’s probably the right distinction to make as it’s not quite presented in the same way as most other visual novels.

It has you playing as a women in her mid-20s called Kelly as she drives back to her her parents’ house in Nebraska through an intense thunderstorm. It’s 20 miles from her grandparents’ barn where she left off and her destination. During this journey Kelly’s mother calls her to have a conversation.

The idea is to navigate the conversation with her parents and younger brother by making choices to steer the narrative in different directions. You also have to steer the car while doing this but it’s not so taxing that you’ll crash if you neglect it – mostly you can slow down and speed up. The game touches on themes including disability, adulthood, and familial obligation.
