Create And Share Nintendo 3DS Games With SmileBASIC

Back in May, SmileBoom confirmed it would be bringing SmileBASIC, the Nintendo 3DS successor to its Petit Computer DSiWare creation software, to the Nintendo eShop. Today, the game was included in the update. The application lets people use BASIC programming language to create their own games.

SmileBASIC is designed for both people with programming experience and without. It includes a built-in manual, context-sensitive “Help,” and a Smile Tool to help manage characters. The program includes over 2,000 design chips and over 100 sound materials, so people don’t have to create their own. It is also possible to create your own pixel art or music with Music Macro Language.

People who prefer to play, rather than create, can enjoy included games or titles created by other users. Some of SmileBASIC’s built-in games include Danmaku Shooting Game 2, Dot Racer, Dungeon Tanken, Jump Kun, and Kakutou. People making their own games can store them on SmileBoom’s servers and pass out download keys to other users so they can access and download the game.

SmileBASIC is now in the Nintendo 3DS eShop for $9.99. You can also visit the official website to download the TrueType fonts and see the list of characters and codes available in the application.
