Capcom’s Hiroyuki Kobayashi Talks About His Evolving Role When Creating Resident Evil Games

The Resident Evil series is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. As a means of honoring the horror games, Capcom has been celebrating with game remasters, rereleases, and retrospectives. The latest tribute comes from Hiroyuki Kobayashi, who’s been involved with the Resident Evil series since 1996.

Kobayashi began as a programmer on the original Resident Evil for the PlayStation. In the seven minute video, he talks about how he got started programming small enemies, like bees, crows, and spiders, for the first game, as well as the human-fly hybrid. Over the years, he’s worked as a programmer, associate producer, and producer for the Resident Evil series, most recently working on Resident Evil 4, 6, and the GameCube Resident Evil remake. He’s also been involved with the Resident Evil movies since Resident Evil: Apocalypse, mentioning his work with each one up to the forthcoming Resident Evil: The Final Chapter due out in 2017.

At the seven minute mark, Kobayashi expresses his amazement that he still gets to work on Resident Evil after 20 years. He says how much he appreciates the support from fans, who’ve made the series’ global success possible. He also thanks everyone for their support.

Back in January, the Resident Evil 0 HD Remaster was released for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Windows PCs. Last month, Capcom announced it would bring Resident Evil 4, 5, and 6 to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Resident Evil 6 will be available on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on March 29, 2016, with the fifth entry following in the summer and fourth in the fall.
