Despite its cute, stylized visual, action/exploration game Axis Descending means to challenge players with difficult, clever enemies that can be overcome in a variety of ways.

Axis Descending takes players to a grand world filled with clever beasts and hidden secrets to explore. Inspired by Metroid and Dark Souls, it offers challenging, fast-paced combat with a variety of weapons and combats styles in a world filled with secrets and hidden places.

The developers have no intention of helping players through this world, offering no in-game map. Players will have to chart their own paths, and find their own shortcuts, through the intertwining world.

Axis Descending has varied pieces of armor and weapons that can be crafted or found by exploring the game’s sprawling world. Each weapon carries its own play style, and all armor is better suited to certain play types, so each new item discovery will mean a potential whole new way to play the game.

The game doesn’t take itself too seriously despite its challenge, offering rose-covered longswords and corgi backpacks to those who want a sillier experience. Players can also further customize their characters with hats, hoods, helmets, and more.

Axis Descending uses a great deal of vibrant colors and varied locales, creating a bright, upbeat experience that runs counter to the oppressive elements of its monster difficulty. Players can see this art style in action for themselves by playing the beta on the game’s site, and if they enjoy it, can vote for the game on Steam Greenlight.

Axis Descending will release in 4th Quarter of 2017.
