Detention has posted a release trailer that shows some of the dark places, unsettling environments, and creepy characters that fill its fictitious world of 1960’s Taiwan under martial law.

The trailer features some uncomfortable imagery of real people doing strange actions, hinting at a character that has done something terrible. It then transitions to a world in ruins, broken down and boarded up in the aftermath of some terrible event. It also shows bits of some of the creatures that wander these haunted places, ones players will soon come to know well.

Detention is a 2D, exploration-based horror game where players will need to seek out items to solve puzzles while avoiding the creatures that now live in this broken world. These creatures are all inspired by Taoism, Buddhism, Chinese mythology, and Taiwanese culture, as is the story.

Detention is available now on Steam.
