Dragon Quest XI Shows More Of Martina, Rou, And Its PS4/3DS Exclusive Battle Modes

Following the brief look we got at Dragon Quest XI’s new characters in Martina and Rou, Square Enix updated the game’s official website with a closer look plus info on console version exclusive battle features.

Dragon Quest XI offers different battle types that are exclusive to the PlayStation 4 version and the Nintendo 3DS version of the game.

The “Free Movement Battle” lets you freely move around the character and viewpoint.

That means you can also sneak up behind enemies.

The “Auto Camera Battle” is all about the intense shots that brings a sense of reality to the fight.

As for the 3DS version of the game, you’ll have the option to switch between 3D Mode and 2D mode. One shows lively monsters in battle while the other brings back a nostalgic look.

 

Next, let’s take a look at how you encounter monsters on the field.

In the PS4 version, you’ll start battles by touching a monster on the field or in a dungeon. From here you’ll get to use commands such as “Attack” or “Spell” to take them on. By defeating monsters you’ll gain experience points and become stronger.

You can start with an edge by hitting an enemy with a preemptive strike.

You’ll occasionally come across sleeping monsters on the fields at night.

On the 3DS version’s 3D Mode, monsters will chase you down after noticing you out there in the field.

You’ll also get to have a preemptive strike advantage by hitting monsters first.

Since 2D Mode is all about the old school feel, it’ll have random encounters.

Square Enix also teased some “surprising new elements” that they have for Dragon Quest XI’s battles, which we’ll learn more about later.

 

Dragon Quest XI releases in Japan in 2017 for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS. The game is also in development for Switch.
