Nintendo is ending the run of the NES Classic Edition run in North America. The final shipment for 2017 will head out to stores in April 2017. After that is sold, the NES Classic Edition and its corresponding NES Classic Controllers, which could also be used with the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo Wii U, will no longer be manufactured for the region.

An official statement was provided to IGN regarding the plug-and-play system. Nintendo apologized for the difficulty people may have had finding the NES Classic Edition, said that it was keeping in mind the response to it, and thanked people for supporting the plug-and-play device. Nintendo also noted that this system was only meant to be a limited product, and it did make more consoles after fans demanded it.

The NES Classic Edition launched on November 11, 2016 in North America and Europe. The Nintendo Classic Mini: Family Computer launched in Japan on November 10, 2016. This discontinuation notice only applies to the North American version of the system.
