Nintendo Switch Units Had To Be Shipped By Aircraft In March To Restock As Soon As Possible

In a new report by the Wall Street Journal, it was revealed that, back when the Nintendo Switch released in March, Nintendo ended up using aircraft to ship more units to North America and Europe to meet the incredibly high demand for the new console.

This is fairly rare to see, as shipping via aircraft is much more expensive. Normally, shipping is done by sea freight, and Nintendo has reverted back to these usual methods since April. However, though Ace Research Institute analyst Hideki Yasuda estimates using air freight can get quite pricey at about 5,000 additional yen per console, it seems like the decision worked out for Nintendo in the end.

Earlier, Nintendo said during the month of March it shipped 2.74 million Switch units, so it seems like it was a good decision on Nintendo’s part in attempt to keep up with demand.
