Overwatch Is Wrapping Up Its Anniversary Event With A Double XP Weekend

Recommended Videos

Overwatch has been celebrating its one-year anniversary for a couple weeks now but it’ll soon wrap up, and in style with plenty of Loot Boxes for everyone with double XP for the weekend.

All players who log in this weekend on PC, PlayStation 4, or Xbox One will receive double experience. This bonus applies to nearly all sources of in-game XP, including:

  • Time spent in a match
  • Completing a match
  • Completing consecutive matches
  • Winning a match
  • Backfilling a match in progress
  • Earning medals

The bonus also stacks multiplicatively with existing group and Internet Game Room bonuses. The only bonus that doesn’t get doubled is the “First Win of the Day” bonus, which remains at 1,500 XP.

This bonus period began yesterday evening and will be available until Monday, June 12 at 11:59pm PDT (or Tuesday, June 13 at 06:59 UTC).

After players took note that the Anniversary event requires 56,475 credits to get all 108, more than any of the previous events (36,825 for Uprising, 37,050 for Year of the Rooster, 33,075 for Winter Wonderland, and 31,500 for Halloween Terror) fans voiced their complaints and director Jeff Kaplan responded with the following:

“I just wanted to acknowledge that we’ve been following the threads about the loot box rewards as they pertain to the anniversary events, other events and loot boxes in general. The feedback and suggestions have been helpful to us. We had a really great discussion yesterday about the feedback we’ve been hearing this week. While I don’t have any immediate action items to report, I thought it was important for you to know that we are listening.”

While it hasn’t been confirmed, it seems likely that the double XP weekend was done as a result.

Overwatch is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
