Yakuza 6 starts out with protagonist Kazuma Kiryu in a hospital recovering from the injuries from the previous game, where it doesn’t take long until he learns that he’s going to be arrested for his past crime. Rather than going out with a fight, Kiryu decides to resist the arrest and spends the next three years in prison, in his own will, to live peacefully with Haruka and the children he had fostered at Asagao in the future.

However, after being released from the hospital, he learns that Haruka had not stayed at Asagao and had gone missing. After searching for his friend, he finds out that she’s been left in a coma after a hit-and-run incident. He also learns that Haruka has a newborn son named Haruto, who Kiryu decides to kidnap to avoid having him be taken by child services. It remains unknown whether Haruka will recover from her injuries, and Kiryu must travel, with baby Haruto, to Onomichi, a port town in Hiroshima, in order to learn more about what happened to Haruka in the last three years.

In addition, here’s an official overview of Yakuza 6: The Song of Life from Sega:

Kazuma Kiryu, the Dragon of Dojima (and the main protagonist of Sega’s long running Yakuza franchise) will find out exactly how much people are willing to sacrifice for family – be those ties through blood or bond – when Yakuza 6: The Song of Life releases in the West. The game is coming to consoles only on PlayStation 4, and thanks to the new “Dragon Engine,” is the most advanced Yakuza title to date. From the unparalleled realism of the new setting of Onomichi, a beautiful, sleepy port town in Hiroshima Prefecture, to the latest evolution of Kamurocho, the biggest red-light district in Tokyo, Yakuza 6 is the ultimate iteration the game’s blend of gritty crime story, hyper-explosive combat, and all the vices and distractions those locales have to offer.

Yakuza 6: The Song of Life is set to release in North America and Europe for the PlayStation 4 in early 2018.
