Back in February 2016, Playdek announced development on Unsung Story, a strategic-RPG with input from Yasumi Matsuno, had been halted. Now, it has revealed Little Orbit is the new developer of the game. In an update on Kickstarter, Playdek says Little Orbit has all Unsung Story rights and assets and will be developing the game from here on out.

A Kickstarter update from Little Orbit’s CEO, Matthew Scott, followed. Scott says he met the Playdek team a few months ago, acknowledges backers may have concerns, and says all promised backer rewards will be honored at no extra cost. However, Little Orbit will be giving Unsung Story a completely fresh start. In his update, Scott says, “Little Orbit is starting from scratch. We have spent hours going through the Kickstarter comments and researching all of the project materials, and I feel the backers have made one thing clear – we need to focus on the original single player game and Matsuno’s design that was promoted during the campaign. And that is exactly what we are going to do. At this point, our primary goal is to separate the years of modifications and changes that were made while Playdek attempted to deliver something to their backers.” As a reminder, some of Little Orbit’s most recent games include Kung Fu Panda: Showdown of Legendary Legends, Monster High: New Ghoul in School, Barbie and Her Sisters: Puppy Rescue, and Adventure Time: Finn and Jake Investigations.

The Unsung Story Kickstarter launched on January 14, 2014. It raised $660,125 from 15,824 backers by February 14, 2014. The game was supposed to be released in July 2015. In September 2015, an update was offered saying development was going slower than expected. That same month, a clarification on the game’s PvP situation had to be issued, due to backers’ concerns about how it would impact the single player campaign. While there was a combat preview update in October 2015, the Kickstarter then went from October 2015 until February 2016 with no updates. A playable beta was mentioned in June 2016. In September 2016, a collaboration with an unnamed, “major company” was discussed. In December 2016, Playdek said it had made a new agreement with its secured credit bank that would allow it to release playable builds of Unsung Story and a “solid beta version.” There were no updates between December 2016 and the August 1, 2016 announcement.

Unsung Story is in development for PCs.
