Nintendo announced that its Nintendo Switch console has become the fastest-selling home video game system in the U.S. history.

Since its launch in March 3, 2017 it has sold more than 4.8 million units in the United States in its first 10 months, according to Nintendo’s internal sales figures. That makes it the highest total for the first 10 months of any home console in U.S. history, surpassing Nintendo’s very own Wii system, which was the previous record holder with over  4 million units sold in the same time frame.

Here’s a quote from Nintendo of America’s President and COO, Reggie Fils-Aimé:

“Fans across the country have experienced the joy of playing their favorite games at home or on the go. Now that many more people have received Nintendo Switch systems for the holidays, we look forward to bringing them fun new surprises in 2018 and beyond.”

The Nintendo Switch’s momentum has been fueled with a strong library of games, with more than 60 percent of Switch owners that have Super Mario Odyssey, and over 55 percent own The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for some strong attach rates for the console. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has an attach rate of over 50 percent and Splatoon 2 with over 20 percent.

This year, Nintendo Switch owners can look forward to upcoming Nintendo-published titles such as Kirby Star Allies, Bayonetta, Bayonetta 2, and a new game starring Yoshi. Nintendo says fans can also expect continued support from major publishers such as EA, Activision, Ubisoft, Capcom, Sega, Take 2, and Bethesda, plus a growing catalog of quality content from indie developers.
