Pokémon GO Will Soon Stop Working On Some Apple iOS Devices

Niantic has announced an Pokémon GO update that will limit the number of Apple iOS devices that will work with the game. On February 28, 2018, any device that can not upgrade to iOS 11 will no longer be compatible with the game, meaning people will need to use an Apple iOS device that is capable of upgrading to iOS 11 or switch to a compatible Android device to keep playing.

The reason for the dropping of support is due to plans Niantic has for Pokémon GO. While it did not offer details about upcoming changes or features, it did note that there will be improvements that older Apple iOS operating systems would not be able to handle. The company also said on Twitter that people will not have to upgrade to iOS 11 to keep playing Pokémon GO after February 28, 2018, as it will be possible to play on compatible devices running iOS 9 or later.

The following Apple iOS devices will no longer work with Pokémon GO after February 28, 2018.

  • iPad 2
  • iPad mini (first generation)
  • iPad (third generation, fourth generation)
  • iPhone 5
  • iPhone 5c

Pokémon GO is available for Android and Apple iOS devices.
