Shining Resonance Refrain Headed Westward For PS4, Xbox One, Switch, And PC In Summer 2018

Sega announced this morning that Shining Resonance Refrain, the remaster of the PS3 RPG that released only in Japan, will come to the West this summer on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.

Update 2: Shining Resonance Refrain is also releasing on Xbox One and PC.

Update: GameInformer reports that the game is also headed to Nintendo Switch.

Play as Yuma Ilvern and stop the Empire from exploiting the power of the ancient dragons, including the soul of the Shining Dragon within you. With the help of your friends, realize your destiny, save Astoria, and unleash the strength you’ve always had locked away.

In the original game, previously released only in Japan, Imperial Princess Excella was an unplayable character, but in the new “Refrain Mode” in Shining Resonance Refrain, both she and Dragonslayer Jinas can be added as party members for a new experience – just be sure to save this for your second playthrough to avoid any spoilers! As an added bonus, all of the extra cosmetic items and side quests are included in this remaster.

Dragons were long thought to be extinct, and because Yuma holds the ability to transform into the Shining Dragon, he was taken as a captive of the Empire. With the help of the Dragoneers, Sonia, princess of Astoria, pleads with Yuma to aid them in their fight to save their land from the Empire’s dominion. Typically timid, will Yuma find the courage to realize the strength he has within him?

Shining Resonance originally released in Japan in 2014 as a PS3 title. It’s a traditional RPG with a real-time action battle system and a focus on music with instrument-style weapons an melodic attacks.

As for the remaster, it comes with over 150 items of DLC content from the original game with new songs and new costumes. There’s a new “Refrain Mode” that throws in a “what if story” featuring featuring Excela Noa Aura and Jenius Aeon who normally don’t join your party.

There are several other new features that you can read about here and here. You can also check out what’s new in a trailer for its Refrain Mode in our previous report.

Shining Resonance Refrain releases in Japan on March 29, 2018 for PlayStation 4. The game will release in the West in Summer 2018 for PS4 and Switch.
