During the financial briefing where Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima said that he would be retiring, a Q & A session was also held with investors. One of the questions that came up was regarding DeNA’s current partnership with Nintendo, and if the new partnership with Cygames changes anything.

Here are the highlights below:

Q: Regarding the aforementioned partnership with Cygames, could you tell us what the difference is from the services provided by DeNA up until now, whether the two companies will be focusing on developing different areas, and what is in mind for the future?

Tatsumi Kimishima, President: “Although we announced our partnership with Cygames today, we have been very satisfied with the projects and supported given to us by DeNA, and will be continuing our partnership with them.

As we were working to expand our lineup of smart device apps, Cygames brought a very interesting game app proposal to us. In order to bring the app out as a part of Nintendo’s game app lineup, we decided it was important to co-develop and co-maintain the app. To do so, we partnered together, and are going to purchase a partial amount of Cygames’ stock as well.

DeNA is not only in charge of our smart device business, but are also providing technical support for our Nintendo Account system, and we would like to continue our relationship with DeNA on this regard as well. As such, there is a difference between our partnership with DeNA and Cygames. In order to expand our smart device business even further, there is a possibility that we may find other partners as well.”

The first game announced as part of the partnership with Cygames is Dragalia Lost, which will be available for iOS and Android. You can find more screenshots and the first trailer here.
