Famitsu conducted a survey on opinions for Mega Man’s 30th anniversary last month, and the results were revealed in the latest issue of Famitsu, which has a special feature on the topic. Here are the results:

Out of the 1,473 people that replied to the Famitsu survey in Japan, it seems that a majority of people started with Mega Man 2. In terms of character popularity, Bass was the most popular, with Protoman coming second, and Mega Man coming third. Famitsu notes that Mega Man & Bass, as well as Bass’ appearances in the Battle Network series probably had an effect on his popularity.

Japan’s most favorite stage out of the Classic series was Gravity Man’s stage from Mega Man 5, with Snake Man’s and Quick Man’s stages tailing behind. Quick Man’s stage was also voted as the hardest to beat, followed by Guts Man and Wily Stage 1 from the original Mega Man.

The ‘hardest boss to beat’ had Yellow Devil dominating the ranking, but followed closely behind by Quick Man and Wily Capsule from Mega Man 7. Meanwhile, Metal Blade was the unsurprising winner of the ‘Favorite boss weapon’ question, though Pharaoh Shot and Slash Claw had their fair share of supporters.

Finally, Japan had a few extra questions as well that were more lighthearted, such as ‘What you would advise Dr. Wily to do if you were his assistant’. Some suggestions included grouping up all the bosses to fight Mega Man at once, giving each boss more spikes, and making the bosses out of the material used to make Mettaur helmets.

Overseas

Famitsu revealed that a whopping 2,603 people answered the survey overseas within the single day it was available. Most of the people originated from North America.

Famitsu noted that while they only counted the Classic series answers, a great many people commented on the Mega Man X and Mega Man Battle Network series as well.

Most people’s favorite Classic Mega Man game was Mega Man 2, then Mega Man 3, and surprisingly Mega Man 8 was in third place, compared to its average placement on the Japanese side.

For favorite characters in the Classic series, Bass and Protoman took the top two places as usual, but Roll managed to displace Mega Man into fifth place, leaving the Blue Bomber lagging behind Metal Man.

Famitsu once again noted in the ‘Favorite BGM’ section that there will a lot of people who voted for Mega Man X series BGMs, especially those from the first game. However, out of the Classic series themes, Dr. Wily Stage 1 from Mega Man 2 was the most voted for, with Galaxy Man Stage and Spark Man Stage being second and third respectively. Outside Galaxy Man, most of the BGMs came from Mega Man 2 and Mega Man 3.
