My Nintendo Gold Points Can Be Put Towards Nintendo Switch Online

Recommended Videos

Nintendo Support continues to reveal details about Nintendo Switch Online ahead of launch. The latest has to do with ways you can use to pay for your subscription. If you happen to have earned My Nintendo Gold Points, either from purchasing digital or physical copies of games, you can use those to purchase subscription time. (Thanks, Resetera!)

The North American Nintendo support page explained how this works. It notes, “Gold Points can be used when purchasing a membership in the Nintendo eShop. They cannot be used for auto-renewal.” It will function just like using Gold Points to purchase a digital game. As a reminder, Sony allows this too with its Sony Rewards program, as three months of PlayStation Plus is 2,499 points and one year is 5,999 points.

As for turning off auto-renewal, there is an interesting bit of information noted about that in the Nintendo Switch Online FAQs. Nintendo noted, “Beginning September 18, 2018, auto-renewal can be turned off through "Your Subscriptions" in your Nintendo eShop or Nintendo Account settings. Once it’s turned off, it cannot be turned on again.” People intending to use Gold Points to pay for a subscription, then planning on turning auto-renewal off, should keep that in mind.

Nintendo Switch Online begins on September 18, 2018.
