Dragon Quest XI Mod Replaces Midi Music With The Orchestral Overhaul

Recommended Videos

A fan-made mod that allows PC owners of Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age to swap out the midi music for the score performed by the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra has just been released. This Dragon Quest XI Orchestral Overhaul mod requires people to have the PC version.

To hear the orchestral soundtrack in Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age, people first need to download three mod packages, which include the injector and music files. There are then two installation methods, which vary depending on whether or not people also have the Dragon Quest XI Special K mod installed.

Here are the official instructions from the Dragon Quest XI Orchestral Overhaul mod  Steam Guide.

INSTALLATION:

Two methods will be detailed for installation.
Method 1 details installation for JUST THIS MOD.
Method 2 will outline instructions to install BOTH this mod AND Special K.

Method 1:

After downloading and extracting all three 7z files (which can be done using 7zip or WinRAR, we recommend 7zip for compatibility reasons), move the extracted contents somewhere that is readily and easily available on your computer.

These files CANNOT be played outside of the game and thus only work when used with the game.

Next, locate the folder with the game which is easy to locate through Steam, simply right click on the game in your Steam Library, select Properties -> Local Files -> Browse Local Files and the game’s folder will open.

Now, simply go to the files you extracted earlier and you should have three folders – "Injector", "Music" and "FMV".

Drag and drop the CONTENTS of each of those folders into the main install directory, and overwrite EVERYTHING when asked.

If you want the best experience possible with this mod, it is recommend that you ensure you overwrite all files when asked if you’d like to.

Finally, go forth and enjoy the game as no further steps are required!

Method 2: USE THIS METHOD IF YOU HAVE INSTALLED/WILL INSTALL SPECIAL K

NOT FOLLOWING THESE INSTRUCTIONS EXACTLY WILL RENDER BOTH MODS USELESS

IF YOU HAVE NOT INSTALLED THE SPECIAL K MOD:

1. Download and install the LATEST version of Special K for Dragon Quest XI, as detailed here: Special K Mod Link

2. Locate your Dragon Quest XI install folder, and proceed to where you installed the Special K Mod (Game -> Binaries -> Win64)

3. RENAME dxgi.dll to d3d11.dll (THIS IS AN INCREDIBLY CRUCIAL STEP).

4. Install the Orchestral Overhaul Mod as detailed in Method 1 above.

5. Enjoy!

IF YOU HAVE ALREADY INSTALLED THE SPECIAL K MOD:

1. Make sure your Special K Mod is UP TO DATE.

2. FOLLOW STEPS 2-4 as detailed above.

3. Enjoy!

MOD DEACTIVATION:

To deactivate BOTH the Orchestral Overhaul Mod and the Special K Mod, simply return to the Win64 folder and remove all files EXCEPT the game’s .exe file. The file integral to the Orchestral Overhaul Mod is the dxgi.dll which is our custom Mod Injector.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age is immediately available for the PlayStation 4 and PC worldwide. It is also available on the Nintendo 3DS in Japan. Dragon Quest XI S is in development for the Nintendo Switch.
