Watch: Nintendo DS browser in action

By Spencer . March 13, 2007 . 1:14pm

While hanging out at SXSW I caught up with the Opera team who are responsible for developing the Nintendo Wii browser and the upcoming DS browser. I pulled one of the programmers market researchers aside to give a little demonstration about how the DS browser works. Check past the break for more pictures of the box and video footage of the browser’s features demonstrated by an Opera employee.

Will this have support to watch Youtube videos?

Ryan Says:

Ugg… Can’t anyone go a day without Youtube or MySpace?

I’m very pleased to hear about a US release date. Should make my browsing of the internet away from home a lot more enjoyable (since I don’t have a laptop. >_>)

i wonder if they will make exceptions for the ds phat like they did in japan?

Lawrence Eng Says:

Hi, I’m Lawrence, the Opera employee in the video. Thanks for stopping by! We’re really excited by the work we’re doing with Nintendo.

Just to clarify, I’m not a programmer. I do market research for Opera. Cheers!

Veilknight Says:

As for why anyone would really want to access Youtube using the DS Lite, I can only imagine for the novelty of watching said videos on a handheld, just as it is with using the Wii to surf through and watch Youtube videos.

Personally, I never really got into the whole Youtube thing, so having no connection to the service doesn’t really bother me. I can live off the novelty of accessing the Web using the DS Lite itself.

Wolfrider Says:

I don’t understand… the DS browser doesn’t have Flash capabilities? That’s all that’s needed to view YouTube or the myriad of other Flash video sites out there. I don’t see why not, after all the Wii browser has it.

Gary Says:

Wolfrider, you don’t seem to know much about hardware, do you?
Wii is way more powerfull than DS so they can’t be compared.
You need some Computer calculation power to smoothly “playback” flash shows.

Wolfrider Says:

*Sighs* Ask a simple question, get a smart ass “I’m still a virgin and will prove my manhood by swinging my phallic computer knowledge around” answer. God I love the internet.

I wasn’t considering hardware, I was thinking more along the lines of “third party plug in” issues.

Danny Says:

I do hope they Include Flash, Pdf, Video Plus Sound for Us ppl. Cause it’s a large browser. and I am getting it as well. Does not matter what’s on it at all.

Thx.
