Backflip Studios and developer Handcircus have soft-launched their open world adventure Seabeard on the Canadian, Mexican, and Dutch App Stores for iOS. It should be released worldwide by the end of the year.
Seabeard has an Animal Crossing look and vibe to it, letting you loose in its giant ocean to explore the small islands dotted around it. You’ll be recruiting new members for your crew, each of which specialize in an ability, such as sailing, fishing, cooking, or fighting.
As you explore, you’ll come across a large number of activities to take part in, as well as quests that will send you into dangerous dungeons to find loot and rid them of monsters. You’ll also meet the Doza, Yorubo and Nook tribes, as well as the friendly characters in Seabeard’s villages, farms, and holiday resorts.
If you head out into the open seas, you’ll find shipwrecked sailors to rescue and get the opportunity to feed whales. Some of the challenges even involve battling sea creatures.
Other than adventuring, you’ll also want to trade in Seabeard, opening up new trade routes and restoring the trading capital Accordia to attract the finest market traders in order to get your hands on the most valuable treasures.
Seabeard is a free-to-play game, so that means you can expect to see some wait-timers, virtual currencies, and paid-only items. However, Handcircus has designed the game so that you won’t need to spend any real money on the game if you don’t want to, and can do as much as everyone else inside it.
