We got to check out Kingdom Hearts III’s latest trailer yesterday from D23 Expo Japan 2018 yesterday, where more details were shared about its development, info on the Gummi Ship, and more from a report by Gamespot.

In the D23 Expo Japan 2018 trailer, it starts out with a meeting between Sora, Donald, and Goofy with an Organization XIII member Marluxia. It showed various worlds including the brand-new Monsters, Inc. world with Sully, Mike, and Boo. We got a glimpse of Sora summoning The little Mermaid’s Ariel.

Square Enix said that Rapunzel will have a numerous ways to use her hair in the game, from interactions, traversing environments, and also to whip enemies. Kingdom Hearts III will also have a new mini-game styled after a Game & Watch title, but it still doesn’t have an official name.

As for talk about its development, according to Square Enix, everyone in the Osaka studio is working on Kingdom Hearts III, including 100 staff members from the Tokyo studio. The development is currently split into three sections of “early,” “middle,” and “late” with about three worlds per section. [Square noted that it doesn’t mean 9 worlds total.]

The early worlds are about 90% complete, with the middle worlds being at about 60%. Square Enix didn’t share info about the late/end parts, but Kingdom Hearts III director Tetsuya Nomura teased that it was “something he’s always wanted to do and put into Kingdom Hearts, ever since the days of working on Final Fantasy.” He also added that “It is bound to surprise everyone.”

You can check out the game’s latest trailer and the theme song “Dont Think Twice” by Utada Hikaru in our previous report.

Kingdom Hearts III’s release is still scheduled for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2018. A release date is expected to be announced at E3 2018.
