Sakurai Shares More On The Development, Music, And Stages Of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

In a post-Nintendo Direct column for this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine, Masahiro Sakurai had additional info to share on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s development, with more info on its music and stages. [Thanks, Ryokutya2089.]

Here are highlights from the column:

  • There’s a total of 34 tracks from Castlevania.

  • There are numerous stages that took over a year to develop. The Omega forms of stages aren’t as simple to make as one might expect.

  • The developers struggled with a lack of staff as Sakurai proposed a cap of 100 members.

  • With improvement on compression technology, they were able to keep the same quality from before while only taking up a quarter of its storage.

  • Squad Strikes are elimination-style battles. Players will get to choose the number of wins required, for example first-to-three, or first-to-five, ten, and so on.

  • Final Smash charges is an option to turn on, but is off by default.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate releases for the Nintendo Switch on December 7, 2018. In case you missed it, we recently got a look at new gameplay footage featuring Chrom, Dark Samus, King K. Rool, and Snake, which you can check out in our previous repot.
