The Overwatch Nintendo Switch Port Won’t Support amiibo, Cross-Play, Or Cross-Progression

Recommended Videos

Back when the Overwatch Nintendo Switch version was announced, Blizzard wasn’t able to confirm if there would be cross-play or cross-progression. Now, ahead of the game’s launch, it has confirmed both features will be absent from the game. It also said people can’t use amiibo with the game. (Thanks, GameSpot!)

With cross-play and cross-progression, this is no real surprise. The PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC versions of Overwatch also do not support either feature.

As for amiibo, the question likely came up due to Diablo III: Eternal Collection. When the game came to the Nintendo Switch, a recolor of the Cute but Deadly Loot Goblin figure was released as an amiibo for it. If people used it, they could go through a portal to The Vault to face the Treasure Goblins and Greed. There will be no such amiibo or amiibo functionality in Overwatch.

Overwatch will come to the Nintendo Switch on October 15, 2019.
