Overwatch On Nintendo Switch Will Likely Have Separate Progression

During the Nintendo Direct, Overwatch was announced for Nintendo Switch, but a recent interview reveals that the Switch version will have some compromises, and is likely going to have a separate progression system. [Thanks, Eurogamer!]

Here are the highlights:

  • As shown in the trailer, the game has optional gyro controls, and is according to principal game producer Wes Yanagi “a real eye-opening experience”.

  • The game runs at a consistent 30fps while docked and while in portable mode. Resolution is 900p docked, and 720p undocked. Lead game producer Matthew Hawley says that they plan on keeping feature parity on the Switch version with the other versions, including seasonal events.

  • Regarding cross-play and cross-progression, Hawley mentioned that there is nothing to announce yet, and that there are both business and technical challenges that need to be addressed before this is possible.

  • Overwatch will support the game’s voice chat system, even though the Switch itself has no in-built chat system.

Overwatch will come to the Nintendo Switch on October 15, 2019. It is immediately available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
