Koei Tecmo director Tomohiko Sho talked about the possibilities of a Dragon Quest Heroes III in a recent interview. [Thanks, NintendoEverything.]
Here’s the quote from the Dragon Quest Heroes series director:
“Obviously this is a Square Enix property so we can’t really say anything, but I have kind of mentioned to them before, ‘Shouldn’t we consider a third entry?’
So we’ve been talking a little about maybe putting out a third entry, but really the big thing is between I and II there were so many improvements made. If we were going to go from II to III, what else can we put in to really impress the players who played both games that will get them really excited and really emotionally moved by it? So there are a lot of hurdles. What would it be that we can put into the game? That’s still something we’re not sure how to do yet.”
Dragon Quest Heroes released in Japan in February 2015 for the PS4 and PS3. It followed with a Western release on PS4 in October 2015. The sequel Dragon Quest II released the following year in Japan in May 2016 for PS4, PS3, and PS Vita. It released in the West on PS4 and PC in April 2017.
Dragon Quest Heroes III has yet to be announced by Square Enix. It was previously hinted by Tomohiko Sho during the PlayStation Awards 2016 but we haven’t heard much else about it since then.
