Setting up camp is relatively easy and can be done with the click of a button. That said, there are several mechanics attached to the “camp” menu, such as “Short Rest” or even going to the camp itself to “Long Rest.” However, in order to Long Rest you will need to supplies. This will not prevent you from setting up camp, however. You only need to press a button on your user interface to bring up the option.

Upon pressing the campfire button circled in the image below, a total of three different options will appear. These include:

  • Short Rest
  • Long Rest
  • Go to Camp

Both “Long Rest” and “Go to Camp” will actually take you to your camp. Short Rest will heal 50% of your HP and restore Spell Points for the Warlock. Short Resting will not restore Spell Points for the Wizard however. They will need to Long Rest in order to do so. Long Resting will also completely heal your party.

Going to camp will allow for you to switch out party members and get to know the companion characters better. Yes, you can talk to them on the field, but going to camp and resting will also help advance specific companion quests after gaining enough affinity with your companions or progressing the story. Characters that you can speak with and potentially advance their companion quest will have an exclamation point over their head. The game will also warn you if you are about to miss out on any companion interactions before you Long Rest. You will also want to Long Rest in order to advance the plot concerning the Illithid Tadpole in your head.

How Many Camp Supplies Do You Need to Long Rest at Camp in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Keep in mind that if you want to Long Rest, you will need 40 Camp Supplies. This can include using a Supply Pack, which counts for 40 Camp Supplies, or different food items you’ve acquired through your journey. Each food item has it’s own amount of Camp Supplies. For example, Poutine is 20 Camp Supplies, whereas Fish equate to 4 Camp Supplies. If you find yourself running low on food items, you will be able to purchase food from specific vendors to replenish your stock.
