How to Unlock the FFXIV Palace of the Dead Deep Dungeon

FFXIV Unlock Palace of the Dead

Final Fantasy XIV allows for players to level up their Job Classes in a myriad of ways, with Palace of the Dead being one of them. This unique type of leveling experience known as a “Deep Dungeon” will test the mettle of even the most experienced players, through randomly generated dungeon levels. Arguably, one of the best ways to level up your Job Class without undertaking the Main Scenario Quests, or doing FATEs, this guide will explain how to unlock the Palace of the Dead in FFXIV.

First, players will need to complete the “Into Copperhell” Main Scenario Quest. This will be the final quest in unlocking the first three dungeons players will have access to, which are Sastasha, the Tam-Tara Deepcroft, and the Copperbell Mines in that order. Once you have completed the Copperbell Mines quest as part of the FFXIV Main Scenario Quests, you can then head to Gridania to pick up the first quest to unlock the Palace of the Dead.

Speak to Nojiro Marujiro in Gridania at X:12.0,Y:13.1 and pick up the quest “The House that Death Built.” This quest is flagged with the blue quest marker with the check point. This signifies that it is optional content that will unlock an extra feature in the game, this being Palace of the Dead. Once you have begun this quest, the chain will eventually lead you to The Quarrymill. This is where the Palace of the Dead is located. Speak to the Wood Wailer Expeditionary Captain at X:25.2, Y:20.6 to enter the Palace of the Dead.

Keep in mind that Palace of the Dead functions completely differently from your standard dungeon. These Deep Dungeons have limited save files, and once you start with a specific Job Class, you must see that save file through to the end, or until you die. That said, you can jump out of the Palace of the Dead every 10 levels, do don’t feel rushed to complete it all in one go.

Final Fantasy XIV is available for the PS4, PS5, and PC.
