Kamen Rider: Climax Scramble revealed more information on its Story Mode this week on Famitsu, as well as more details on Free Battle Mode, and the Scramble Blast and Skill battle systems.
The game builds off the previous game, Kamen Rider Climax Fighters, and has been remodeled to take advantage of the Nintendo Switch’s capabilities for fun multiplayer action. However, the game will also have a story featuring Kamen Rider Zi-O as the protagonist.
Players take control of Kamen Rider Zi-O, who has to defeat the various Kamen Riders who stand in his path. The Kamen Riders have had their memories meddled with, and see Zi-O as their enemy. By winning against them in battle, they will join your team, and you can unlock them for Free Battle Mode.
Apart from fighting Kamen Riders, there are also various battles against monsters as well. The story is progressed through a storyline chart indicated in the screenshot, and each spot contains a challenge or stage that you need to complete to progress.
In Free Battle Mode, you can play with three other people offline for up to four people in one match, and the game supports single Joy-Con. There are various settings you can take advantage of, such as team battles, handicaps, perspective changes, etc. so you can have fun with family or friends.
The top screenshot shows off how battles are like in four-player battles, where you can tell who you are locked on to by the arrow pointing to your target. Every person shares the same screen and camera, making this a total free-for-all. 2-player versus uses a more traditional split-screen format so each player can view their character from behind.
Famitsu also showed off the Scramble Blast and Skill battle systems that each Rider can take advantage of. (Shown on the left column and right column of screenshots respectively)
Scramble Blast
By attacking the opponent, getting damaged, or losing a life, you charge up your Scramble Blast Gauge. When it’s full, you can press the L and R buttons together to activate Scramble Blast. Your Kamen Rider will change into their ultimate form, and fight in that form until the gauge depletes to zero again. During this period, you can use the ultimate finisher as well.
For example, Kamen Rider Build transforms into his Genius Form, while Kamen Rider Cross-Z will transform into Cross-Z Magma.
Skills
After a certain period of time, your Skill gauge will naturally fill up, and you can use Rider-specific skills, including Form Changes, strong attacks, special movement options, and more. You must find the right timing to use your Skill, and they are crucial to turning the tide of battle.
The screenshots above show Build using his Skill, which is to change into either Tank Tank Form or Rabbit Rabbit Form. Kamen Rider Cross-Z can change into Cross-Z Charge.
Kamen Rider: Climax Scramble is henshin-ing onto Nintendo Switch in Japan on November 29, 2018. The game is also getting an Asia release with English subtitles.
