Overwatch Is Adding A New Map With A German Castle

Today at gamescom, Blizzard has given fans a preview of the first new map in Overwatch since the game’s debut. Named Eichenwalde, the map is of an abandoned village complete with a towering castle located near Stuttgart, Germany.

Per Blizzard, the village has its own history and significance in the world of Overwatch, which reads as follows.

The site of one of the most famous battles during the Omnic Crisis, it was here that the leader of the Crusaders, Balderich von Alder, and a handful of his best soldiers made a last stand against an advancing automaton army. Outnumbered and outgunned, they were ultimately slain during the resulting combat. However, thanks to their valiant efforts, the German military was able to push back the omnic offensive and win the fight.

Players will complete either an assault or escort mission on the vast new area. The escort team strives to take a battering ram up to the castle, seeking to retrieve Balderich’s body. Meanwhile, the assault team seeks to prevent Eichenwalde Castle from being breached.
