Sega held a Phantasy Star Online 2 event in Japan where they outlined the game’s Hybrid Custom Action system. The PC game has a number of changes like adding the ability to jump in the game. Characters in the game have a jump attack. Fields in Phantasy Star Online 2 are three-dimensional and reaching high ground to shoot from can give you a tactical advantage.
While Phantasy Star Online 2 is an online RPG, it has third person shooter elements. The game has a sharpshooting system where you can aim at weak points and line up headshots for extra damage. If you pick a Ranger or Force class, it’s possible to play the game like a third person shooter. Hunters, the melee class, can create original combos by selecting moves and special attacks. Another change is your character doesn’t level up in the game, instead you have a class level.
Like Phantasy Star Online, Phantasy Star Online 2 has randomly generated fields. While you’re exploring an area, interrupt events popup. Think of these like surprise side quests where you have to defeat a certain number of monsters or rescue a character trapped by an enemy. You can run into other parties in a field one of the game’s multi party areas. Up to twelve characters can be in a field at one time.
Phantasy Star Online 2 is slated for release this year on PC.
