Pokemon Diamond and Pearl Remake Sales Reach 13.9 Million Units

A recent financial report from Nintendo revealed the Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl remakes have sold 13.97 million units worldwide. A majority of these sales came from the October to December 2021 holiday period. Total software sales in general saw a significant increase during that time period.

The latest sales numbers make Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl the ninth best-selling Switch titles to date. Of the 13.9 million units sold, approximately 10 million units were sold outside of Japan.

In comparison, Famitsu previously reported back in December 2021 that the two remakes had sold a combined 6 million units worldwide since launch. Earlier in November, the remakes had sold 1.3 million units in the first week of launch. The next best-selling titles, Pokemon: Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee, have sold a cumulative 14.3 million units since their 2018 release.

Interestingly, the financial report also noted that digital software sales saw a significant increase during the holiday season. The report credited a few releases for the rise in sales. These included the release of the Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes, as well as the release of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Animal Crossing Happy Home Paradise DLC, and the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack. These releases also likely contributed to the boost in hardware sales for the Nintendo Switch.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are immediately available on the Nintendo Switch. If you’re interested in learning more about the game, you can also check out our official review.
