It seems a new storefront will play host to Phantasy Star Online 2 soon. The PSO2 Steam listing is now online. If everything there is accurate, people will be able to grab it from that distributor starting on August 5, 2020. The official website has confirmed the launch, as well as some Half-Life and Portal-related items.
Here’s the video going over the Steam launch rewards for the game. People get a Headcrab Emote for logging into the game through Steam. Completing a quest on Casual or Normal difficulty will get you Half-Life’s Alyx’s hair and Pyro’s gas mask. If you beat any quest twice on Hard or Hardcore, you will get Gordon Freeman’s crowbar weapon camo, a Left 4 Dead frying pan weapon camo, a Team Fortress 2 minigun weapon camo, and a Wheatley Evolution Device. If you beat any quest three times on Very Hard or higher, you’ll get a HEV Suit. If you complete any quest four times on Super Hard or higher, you’ll get the Alyx Replica.
At the moment, PSO2 is only available on the Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs. However, there was a hint a Steam release was on the way months ago. Back in February 2020, the official manual had a part talking about the a version that would be available through Valve’s storefront
Shortly after the English version of PSO2 was announced, Microsoft’s Phil Spencer confirmed that it wouldn’t just be an Xbox One and PC exclusive. He said, “And yes, it’ll end up on all platforms.” The Xbox One launch happened first, and the Windows 10 version followed in May 2020. Now, all that’s left is to see if it eventually appears on the PlayStation 4 or Nintendo Switch too.
Phantasy Star Online 2 is immediately available on the Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs. If the PSO2 Steam page is accurate, we’ll see it available for even more PCs on August 5, 2020. As for the series’ future, Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is in development.
