Pui Pui Molcar NFT Added to LINE Market

Molcars may be simple creatures needing nothing more than vegetables to munch, but the humans behind them are ready to cash in on the NFT bubble. Official Pui Pui Molcar items are being sold on the LINE NFT marketplace. The announcement came via the official Pui Pui Molcar Twitter account.

The Pui Pui Molcar NFT drop appears to be the work of a partnership between printing company Hyoda and CryptoGames, a developer of blockchain and NFT services. Hyoda prints physical merchandise such as stickers and posters for various brands. It’s also worked with CryptoGames before, “minting” NFTs of some sticker and poster lines.

A visit to the Pui Pui Molcar NFT site shows a number of minted stills from the show. There are a total of 224 NFTs for sale in the batch. Some are batches of twenty “copies” of the same image unique only in their NFT ID number. Others are a single-item series. Each token has a starting price of JPY 35,000 (about USD $306). Interested buyers will need to link their LINE Bitmax Cryptocurrency wallet to the site. Purchasers will receive a physical A3-size poster print, as well. What they won’t receive, however, is IP rights. The sale page makes it clear that the only thing buyers are purchasing is ownership of the NFT itself. Commercial use rights and copyright continues to be held by Pui Pui Molcar‘s owners.

Pui Pui Molcar isn’t the first brand to dip a toe into the NFT market. Square Enix sold NFT “digital stickers” based on Million Arthur on the same LINE NFT Marketplace. Sega expressed interest in getting into NFTs, and Ubisoft is selling NFT items in its Ghost Recon Breakpoint game. NFTs as a medium have faced criticism for their nature as a cryptocurrency-related product. The space as a whole has raised concerns about environmental impact, volatility, and the prevalence of scams.

Pui Pui Molcar is available to view via streaming platforms such as Netflix and Muse Asia. A Nintendo Switch game, Pui Pui Molcar Let’s Molcar Party, was released in Asia and Japan on December 16, 2021.
