Resident Evil 2 and 3 Ray Tracing Bug Will Be Fixed in Future Update

Capcom acknowledged a ray tracing bug in the Steam versions of Resident Evil 2 and 3. The ray tracing option is currently inaccessible. Capcom confirmed it is an issue that will be fixed in a future update.

The ray tracing bug was first spotted on the r/pcgaming subreddit and the Resident Evil 3 Steam community. Users noticed a recent update for both Resident Evil 2 and 3 removed raytracing from the graphics options. In addition, the option for Dolby Atmos for headphones disappeared from the audio options at the same time. No explanation had been provided for the absence of either option at the time.

Capcom now confirmed that this is a bug. It did not say what the cause is, but it will be fixed in an upcoming patch. The release date for this patch has yet to be confirmed.

This isn’t the first time Capcom had issues with ray tracing and 3D audio in Resident Evil games on Steam. In 2022, an update adding these options to Resident Evil 2, 3 and VII all caused performance issues for users on older systems. It also broke mods in the process. Capcom had to reissue an older version that didn’t support raytracing.

Resident Evil 2 and 3 are both available for Steam, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Amazon Luna, and the Nintendo Switch via the cloud.
