Splatoon 3 DLC Sees Return of Spyke

Spyke was originally seen in the first Splatoon on Wii U, where he operated a shady back alley business. He could help players customize their gear by adding additional ability slots and re-rolling the gear’s secondary abilities. He could also be called on to order gear that could be seen worn by other players in the Inkopolis plaza. Most of these services used Super Sea Snails, a currency typically earned from Splatfests.

Spyke was replaced in Splatoon 2 with a younger sea urchin character named Murch who ran similar services. These services have been expanded, allowing players to craft specific abilities they want instead of gambling on a reroll. According to Nintendo’s latest screenshots, Spyke gained these extra services from Murch, as he uses the same menu as his Splatsville equivalent.

Spyke’s reveal comes after previous reveals of the DLC’s shopkeepers, including some familiar faces and newcomers.

Splatoon 3 is available now for Nintendo Switch, and the DLC is set to release in Spring 2023.
