A while ago, Capcom announced that Street Fighter X Tekken on the PlayStation Vita would have twelve exclusive characters when it released later this year. Last night, Street Fighter X Tekken enthusiasts uncovered that all twelve of these characters are already on the disc for the console versions of the game.
This isn’t surprising in the least, considering that most assumed the twelve new characters would be released as DLC for the console versions of Street Fighter X Tekken at some point in the future anyway. That having been said, fan tempers were quick to flare as they’re wont to do, and Capcom have released an official statement explaining why they chose to put the characters on the disc:
“Capcom has confirmed that 12 new fan-favorite characters will be available as Downloadable Content (DLC) on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC versions of Street Fighter X Tekken later this year. The playable characters will make their debut on the PS Vita system when the game is released this fall, with the console and PC versions receiving them as DLC soon after. The character information and files were intentionally included on retail versions of the PS3 and Xbox 360 game to save hard drive space and to ensure for a smooth transition when the DLC is available, allowing players who choose not to purchase the content the ability to play against players that did.”
“This move also furthers our desire to avoid a "Super" version of the game down the road,” Capcom continue, in a post on their community site. Capcom say that the current disc version of Street Fighter X Tekken will be the only version players will need to own, as any and all upgrades released to the game in the future will be through DLC.
The PlayStation Vita version of Street Fighter X Tekken will be released this fall, and the twelve additional characters will be made available to users of the console and PC versions “shortly after” the Vita version’s launch.
