This is a little unbelievable so before you even read more file this under rumors and speculation. There’s been a renewed discussion about the existence of Mother 3 on the Nintendo 64 due to an auction on eBay. Before the Game Boy Advance title was conceived Mother 3 (aka Earthbound 2) was initially planned for Nintendo’s 64 DD add on. The magnetic disc drive ended up being a failure and most of the titles were pushed to cartridge (like Paper Mario) or fell to the wasteland (like Mario Artist: Game Maker). Mother 3 was originally intended for the 64 DD and had some development going before the 3D version was canned.
About a year ago one person managed to snag four blue beta 64DD discs with M3 written on them. The buyer was told that these discs had Mother 3 on them, but he was unable to check the discs even with a 64DD development kit. The missing ingredient is a partner 64 cartridge and floppy discs containing the IPL4 rom program. All of the sudden the missing link popped up on eBay and maybe just maybe we will all get a chance to see Mother 3D soon.
I love this kind of stuff….missing links, game conspiracies…brings romantism to the world of games!
This needs to be true and it needs to be dumped to rom asap. Please.
I am also a cult fan of Earthbound. I hope this is true.
i remember seeing screenshots of earthbound 64 in Nintendo Power…
If this is true… I would sell my soul for that game. EB / Mother were the BEST games ever made!
Can anybody say “Available ONLY on Nintendo Virtual Console”. I bet they have a lot of projects in the garage they could drag out to the VC.
Anxiously awaiting the Wii for it’s retro capabilities.
I’m hoping they re-publish the original controller, if for anything else, novelties sake.
I hunger.
I pray to god this is true I have to have that game for the love of god

Were this to be true, I would definitely be interested considering I am one of those cult fans of the mother series.
