E3 not cancelled, just restructured

We were waiting to write something about the announcement about the future of E3, the video game mega show that comes around every May. Over the weekend rumors were floating that the show has been nixed since “major publishers” (rumor has it Electronic Arts jumped the gun first) pulled out financial support. However that isn’t exactly the case. ESA president Doug Lowenstein explained, “E3Expo remains an important event for the industry and we want to keep that sense of excitement and interest, ensuring that the human and financial resources crucial to its success can be deployed productively to create an exciting new format to meet the needs of the industry. The new event ensures that there will be an effective and more efficient way for companies to get information to media, consumers, and others.” E3 cancelled? Hardly. Maybe this could be better for the industry, more small shows, news trickling throughout the year and the hope forpublic events. Opposable Thumbs chimes in with an intelligent take on why downsizing might be for the better.
