Dreaming of the Devil: Devil May Cry Sins Remembered Director Interview

I can’t help but feel this will suck…..badly. You say Nelo/Nero was just a rumour, but if (IF) it is true that he’s human, played by a fat guy in it (like one pic showed) I will be so, so, SO annoyed! Nelo/Nero IS Vergil. Vergil is NOT fat. Vergil IS bloody cool! I’m not getting my hopes up on a decent Vergil, or a good Dante for that matter, but as a massive fan of Vergil, I fear this will ruin his game image.

I really like it. He admitted it isn’t high-budget, doesn’t mean it wont be good. My favourite movies are low budgets, such as: The Thing, Escape from New York etc.

Seriously you guys act as if Hollywood, does a better job at making your heroes come to life. I rather see a Regular Joe Adaptaion of Devil May Cry then a Hollywood one. You may ask why, and I will answer happily. My reason is simple, I know a Hollywood studio has the money and the means to make a very good movie, but they will take in account the demographic for the movie, and the audience (gamers) and decide they are not worth it, and just putting the movie out is enoug. So if I got to see a low budget flick, I rather see a low budget flick from a new average up an coming film maker, rather than a hollywood studio flipping me off cause they think the story isn’t worth it, and treat it is as quick cash movie.

I’m really disappointed. How can they use a Devil May Cry movie as a low-quality promotional tool for another movie?! Right now I cannot say it for the actors, but the staff didn’t put lots of effort in making this movie, for sure… after all, it’s just a ‘promotional tool’!!! It’s such a horrible word. Like saying, “hey this movie isn’t really important, we need only to use the DMC name to promote that other movie we made!!! (’Devil Hunters’? wow, how original… where else I’ve heard about a similar subject? *turns her head and looks to her Devil May Cry games*).
Dante (and all of the other characters from this saga) deserves a lot, lot and LOT better than this >x(!

Wow, I hope to see this DVD soon. I don’t care if it’s cheesy either since I’m a big b-movie buff. Still, I got high hopes for it. Even if it’s low budget, if it has strong characterization and a good story it won’t matter to me if Dante’s actor looks like he’s wearing a white wig. I hope this small project actually prompts for a larger production. Again, if the story and actors’ abilities are solid, then even low-budget effects are just a side note. BTW, I hope to see more photos of the actor who plays Dante. I can’t really see him in these pics.

BTW, Ariem Sparda, you do make several good points. I may want to see this movie because I’m a DMC fan (and anything NOT done by Uwe Boll is a blessing), but I don’t like this movie being described as a ‘promotional piece’ for another project either. It gives the impression these guys don’t really care about DMC at all, even if they might. Still, since these guys did pay for this production outta their own pockets, they got the right to describe this movie as a side dish, right? :-p I wonder how much they paid Capcom to use their characters though…

Anyway, here’s hoping this ‘promotional tool’ prompts someone truly committeed to the DMC franchise to give this game the proper red carpet treatment.

Seriously, I’d rather they make it into a 3D anime like Final Fantasy Advent Children. At least Dante will not mutate into some.. Dante wannabe. Or whatever.

i swear sum ppl “promotional tool” get over it, becuase its not high-budget doesnt mean its not good obviously a high-budget would make the effect better, and make it into a proper length film, however thats all high-bugdet films do, make things look better, doesnt mean it makes the film’s story, acting and meaning better, and about it being used as a promotional tool so what, its called, good marketing and i hate the fact that some of you are saying that its going to be crap without because its for that purpose… and also to the guy that sed “all the characters from this saga deserve better” geek! sorry but that is the sadest thing i have ever read! the game is already very popular…

I agree 100% with ‘zsavior’ damn right hollywood think they know everything and are so over confident! For one the worst films ever have to be some of the remakes like “Street Fighter”, “The Ring”, “Fist Of The North Star” and almostg as bad as Street Fighter has to be “Resident Evil” and the shocker “Silent Hill”. Just who told the people that these films were good!!!! The original “Ring” eats the new one alive end of story!! The playstation games and “Street Fighter” should have stayed as games apart from the animated series by people who knew what they were doing with “Street Fighter” the animated movies.

It’s nice and simple dont f##k about with the storyline too much or you should simply change the title to something new! “Resident Evil” was in no way linked to the games apart from the virus and zombies and oooooh the licker which might i add oh almost worse special effects than the awful “Alien 3″, and thats saying something!!

To create new films is to be individual like in art or music, remakes need to be more identical to the original even if you change something it doesn’t give you the reason for being completely abstract and idiotic.

However the DMC trailer doesnt give enough detail to warrent criticism yet i am going to give it a chance and havent yet been bothered if it is going to be acted or animated the result could be what the doctor ordered so to speak but only time will tell.

I hope it is a great film or lets just stop the whole game conversion into film or remakes because it will just be more evidence that it simply doesn’t work.

I like that its live action it makes it feel more real but i hate the way its described as a promotion but hey if we like it pay them bac by seeing this devil hunters if we dont then there other movie will rot in hell. oh and if trish is in this as a little girl then sparda was a pedofile because trish was made to look like dante’s mother and how could elo angelo b human thats vergil they could just say that not a human version of nelo we all know there the same person it sed it in dmc1 i hope its good and that they make more they should make one of them all

I agree with zsavior…I’d rather see a fan film instead of a Hollywood film becuase the Hollywood directer can mess up the movie, espescially a video game adaptation…one tile people “BloodaRanye”…

Jeez you guys are all whining before the thing even comes out. Give it a chance! The photos look horrible (except the lady one) but thats because they arent post-production yet. And Im sorry that some of you cant enjoy a movie…. I loved Silent Hill, and I dont care that the story line was different! Im a film and television major/interactive game design minor in college right now, so I understand the need to change the story, be it because of budget or simply the inabilaty to create believable monsters/plot. Everybody interprets things differently, its called artistic licence. Just learn to diferentiate between film and gameplay. They’re very different! And thank your lucky stars that Uwe Boll didnt get his hands on this one lol.

Whats with dante’s hair?

I think everyone is pissed because Dante looks small and not much like the game character, sure Hollywood have the budget, and they HAVE to take the audience into account, because if they don’t they won’t be seeing any profit, even Hollywood needs to have a marketing strategy. Dante’s hair could be so much better though, I mean, sheesh, but remember this too, real-life=not a game, hair can’t be manipulated as well. Well, I hope this film does well, seeing as the makers paid the budget from their own pocket, I hope it isn’t a waste.

Maybe the next game movie we’re gonna see will be BOMBERMAN with jack nicholson as the bomb.

Ok… this sounds like another Tombraider movie to me, AGAIN they start where they want it to start and not where they should… at the beginning! And I don’t like the idea of either Virgil OR Dante being noticably FAT and soooo NOT human! Typical how they always start towards the end and then go backwards (it worked with star wars but it won’t work with DMC)

First thing: I’m disappointed by the choice of actor for Dante. I would have preferred Owen Wilson - he really looks like Dante, imho.
Second point: Who do you mean by ‘Nelo’? Is it Nelo Angelo or Nero from DMC4? Nero IS human…he gets posessed by demonic forces in the course of the game…

I can´t wait to see it. I´m a huge fan of DMC and a shabby promotion film would simply break my heart. The most important thing to me is a good storyline and convncing characters - if the directors payed attention to this it doesn´t matter if it´s low budget.

Nero Angelo was another name for Nelo Angelo. There was a whole mix up in translations, so for anyone who wants to argue about the whole Nero Nelo thing, please do some research before jumping.

I think that using American actors for asian based stuff isnt good. I think that if they plan to make an anime based live action movie that they should use asian actors, like japanese, chinese, of korean. For some reason when they use nonasian people for asian games or anime it just doesnt feel right to me. An example of a asian based movie with non-asian actors: Street fighter. And that was a TERRIBLE movie. If they plan to make a DMC movie, i suggest that they use mostly asian actors and have great special effects, like what The 300 had.Or even better, they should make these types of movies american/asian jointed. The actors would be asian, and the special effects and stuff would be made by americans. Certian people like Arkham dont need to be asian though.America shouldnt make asian based movies unless there joint with japan o something. If there not, the movie would be absolutely horrible, just like street fighter.

Well…i was on imdb, typed in Devil May Cry, and found a movie due for release in 2010, not that there’s any information on it. If this (above) is the movie, then I’m gonna be praying to a lot of gods for it to improve.

There are so many errors in the interview, and nothing seems to make sense.

That`s just a guess, it does`t mean that it will come out in 2010. I watched 2 trailers and I think the movie will be awesome. But 4 the DMC fans: Try not to have any accidents or in worst case die cuz U will enjoy watching this movie 100%.

In a way I hope there will never be a live action movie because it can do nothing but degrade the image of the characters unless of course if it was a high budget film and they get the story right and most importantly have good enough actors to play the main characters then I would reconsider But thats asking for too much.

This will end up being like the DB Live Action Movie coming out this summer… crappy. Though most video game movies are pretty bad due to the writers not thinking that people would know a lot about the game itself. I don’t understand why people keep trying making video game movies when they usually botch due to how lame the action to the acting is.

The only video game movie to actually make it is Resident Evil. The others either died or almost made it. Low budget or not, I’m expecting this movie to be crap whenever it comes out.

Okay this is bull #$%! Nelo Angelo is Vergil possesed by Mundus Nero isnt even introduced till after DMC1. Trish Is made by mundus in DMC1 so she shouldn`t be a little girl or even in the movie. Arkham’s supposed to be dead. Already the story is ruined I bet they showed it to capcom and they said WTF and refused to give them rights or hopefully they took control and are going to make a more believable story and movie for that matter all i can say is it sounds like crap the stories already a mockery of the whole series. I’ve never been much of a gamer (unless you count the Sims, which I wouldn’t), but my bro has grown up with games, I mean this dude lives and breathes games (he faithfully forces our parents to buy the NAG every month, and that’s not a cheap mag!) It’s in one of the latest mags that I saw the pic of Dante and Nero flashing their guns at one another. So I have a fetish with blondes with blue eyes, so screw me, I’m a sucker! As I was saying, however, my bro is like a wizz on games, and when I saw the Blood Rayne movie I was like, whoa! I want to check this out, and he said, DON’T. Said the director’s movies are crap (apparently he makes movies of the cool games and then just gives it a bad name). I’d have loved to watch a movie on DMC 4 (I watch the theatre trailers of the game with a bowl of popcorn, honestly!) But Hollywood does have a way of screwing things up. If you’re not familiar with the original material, you might see it differently and think its a kick-ass movie. But as I’m an avid reader (being transformed into an avid gamer >gulp< many movies have been a disappointment after reading the book. Example: Jurassic Park II - what the hell ever happened to the chameleon dinosaur? I was waiting for it through the whole movie! Another example : The ever popular Harry Potter series. I watch every movie, but lose interest half way through and fall asleep. The books, on the other hand, are way better! (Bet no one knew the original character Harry Potter has green eyes and is scrawny and small, instead of the handsome blue eyed stud in the movies?)
Off the topic, sorry! Hollywood will mess it up - they’ll alter the plot, which is completely unnecessary because it’s brilliant the way it is. The storyline is strong and you can follow it easily. How about Bruce Willis to play Dante, anyone? Bah! RiDiCuLoUs. Better to leave the game to be a game - unless Capcom itself directs the movie, it will be worthwhile to see.
Anyway. I have a theory. Nero was an orphan, right? He’s got the sparda blood or whatever it is again. Dante is the son of the knight Sparda. And he’s much older than Nero. Father and son, maybe?
